Don DeGasperi grew up in Pittsburg, Kansas and became fascinated by airplanes at about age 5. He drew airplanes in his school books and began designing, building, and flying scale model planes. In college he took some rudimentary art classes, but is essentially a self-taught aviation artist. He served 20 years in the US Air Force as an Engineering Draftsman and a Technical Illustrator. Don retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) after 25 years as a Senior Technical Artist. He specialized in drawing precisely accurate, minutely detailed, and highly classified cut-a-way airbrush illustrations. These illustrations were used by LANL and various scientific, congressional, military, and other government agencies. Don's work has appeared in Aviation Week and Space Technology and he has completed many private commissions. He has won several awards in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Art competition during the last 19 years. He currently has two award winning paintings in the 1997 EAA Art Competition. As a pilot and aircraft owner, Don still pursues other aviation hobbies - flying, designing and building radio-controlled models, and aerial photography. He lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife, Peggy.
